                                     A Prayer for the Grace of Devotion.

    O Lord, my God! You are all my good things. And who am I, that I should dare speak to You? † I am Your poorest, meanest servant, and a vile worm, much poorer, and more contemptible than I know or dare express. Yet do You remember me, O Lord, because I am nothing, I have nothing, and I can do nothing.  You alone are good, just and holy.  You can do all things, You supply all things, You fill all things, only the sinner You leave empty. “Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love” † and fill my heart with Your grace, for You do not will that Your works should be worthless.  How can I bear up myself in this miserable life, unless You strengthen me with Your mercy and grace?  “Hide not your face from your servant”;† delay not Your visitation; withdraw not Your consolation, lest my soul becomes a thirsty land. “Teach me to do Your will”;† teach me to live worthily and humbly in Your sight; for You are my wisdom, who do truly know me, and did know me before the world was made, and before I was in the world.  •
